Napa County Farm Bureau

"Give me three good reasons to join Farm Bureau"

  1. Political Clout
The "Right to Farm Ordinance," the "Hillside Ordinance," the "Winery Definition Ordinance," and the "Farmworker Housing Ordinance" along with the creation of protective agricultural zones are just a few of the important legislative acts that protect agriculture and the rural character of Napa County. Farm Bureau was instrumental in the creation of these policies and continues to keep a watchful eye on land use issues in an effort to preserve our precious agricultural land.

On the state and national levels, Farm Bureau continually monitors representatives and pending legislation. Our Board of Directors, all members of the local agricultural industry, support activities that are friendly to agriculture and actively oppose those which undermine the use of our agricultural land and unfairly tax or overburden our nation's family farmers. Farm Bureau lobbyists work full time to provide a powerful voice in Sacramento and Washington, D.C.

  2. Education
Farm Bureau strives to educate our community leaders and educators about the world of agriculture and the important role it plays in their lives. They, in turn, pass along their knowledge to their students and the community. Through such activities as Leadership Napa Valley and the Summer Ag Institute, we we emphasize that agriculture is a part of our lives, and that preservation of our land is critical to agriculture.

Through the Aldo Delfino Scholarship Fund, college students are rewarded for pursuing careers in agriculture. Each year the fund distributes up to $2,000 in scholarships to high school seniors in Napa County. Students complete both written and oral interviews, and must plan to study agriculture at the college level.

  3. Unique Benefits
In addition to the wide variety of discount services, there are several member benefits including a $3,000 AD&D certificate of insurance (increases to $5,000 in fourth year and $7,500 in eleventh year of membership) which covers each member and spouse, continuous with annual membership renewal. Also, a wide range of insurance protection is available through CalFarm Insurance, providing services specifically designed to meet the needs of farmers. Additionally, a stand alone dental policy is available to all members.

As a Farm Bureau member you will receive the Napa Valley Advocate newsletter, which will keep you up-to-date on current issues, trends and highlights of the ag industry in Napa County.

Farm Bureau History

The Napa County Farm Bureau is a grassroots organization which began in 1914, with the joining of the Napa Grange members, to represent agriculture throughout the county. Today, the Napa County Farm Bureau is one of 53 county organizations under the umbrella of the California Farm Bureau Federation and the American Farm Bureau Federation which operates by the philosophy that more can be accomplished for the good of agriculture by working together than by working as individuals.

This philosophy is witnessed in the Napa County Farm Bureau membership totalling over 1,100 local farmers and ranchers, including individuals involved in production agriculture and non-farm members who support our goals, activities, and services. We are a voluntary, non-profit, non-governmental organization whose basic goal is to ensure the proper political, social, and economic climate for the continuation of agriculture. Our strong agriculture heritage has contributed significantly to this country's standard of living. We strive to preserve the land and the policies which allow us to maintain the quality of life we have come to enjoy in our county, state, and nation.
